History: Jesse Pinkman at the Breaking Bad wiki
Appearance: Here!
Personality: When we first meet Jesse, he's falling off a roof, half-clothed, running from a DEA drug raid. He's a small-time meth cook and dealer, going by 'Cap'n Cook' and making himself stand out by adding chili powder to his meth.

He is a loser. Disowned by his family, dealing drugs, with no job, no prospects, and no ambitions beyond getting money and getting high. A mediocre student in high school, Jesse had trouble focusing and applying himself, spending his time and energy on sometimes vulgar sketches rather than studying. He dresses in oversized jeans and hoodies, speaks in uneducated street lingo, and spends his free time playing video games and getting high with his friends.

However, there's much more to Jesse than the streetwise junkie he presents himself as and believes himself to be. Though he attempts to act tough and intimidating, in reality he doesn't have the stomach for the casual violence and brutal attitude demanded by his profession. He's the one to suggest killing Krazy-8 early in his and Walt's partnership, but when push comes to shove, he begs to be allowed to dissolve the already-dead Emilio's body in acid rather than kill Krazy-8 himself.

He can be impatient and impulsive, blowing thousands of dollars at a strip club with his friends when Walt gives him his life savings to buy an RV for them to cook in. However, Jesse is also intelligent and creative when not stoned out of his mind. When he and Walt realize that they failed to tie up Krazy-8 in Jesse's basement, he quickly grabs his bike lock and takes the time to make sure it couldn't be slipped over his own head before using it to restrain him. He is clearly smarter and more forward-thinking than his stoner friends, saving the cash he made with Walt in a rainy-day fund and thinking beyond the next high.

Jesse grew up in a comfortable, upper-middle-class home with present and engaged parents, unlike many of his peers in the drug scene. However, it seems that however hard he tried, he could not live up to his parents' expectations, leading to teenage rebellion and his eventual descent into drug use. This difficult, fruitless search for affection and approval affected Jesse long after his estrangement from his parents. He is quick to develop loyalty to anyone who shows him either, and can be easily manipulated as a result. His self-esteem also took a hit from his poor performance in school and inability to please his parents. Though he puts on an exaggerated, confident persona as 'Cap'n Cook,' he feels inadequate in comparison with his overachiving younger brother, and uncertain of his own abilities when asked to do something outside of his wheelhouse, such as when Walt gets sick and asks him to complete a cook on his own.

He connects easily with children, and whenever he comes into contact with them, does everything he can to shield and shelter them from his own lifestyle and the dangers associated with it. When he briefly visits home and his parents find a joint his younger brother, Jake, had hidden in Jesse's room, he allows his parents to believe that the drugs were his, allowing himself to be once again kicked out of their home rather than seeing his brother punished. When Jake asks for the weed back, Jesse drops it on the ground and crushes it rather than returning it to him, not wanting to see him follow the same self-destructive path.

Jesse is charismatic and friendly, and truly likes people. While he doesn't hesitate to argue and stand up for himself when he feels he's being unfairly attacked, and he can have a temper when things go wrong, he is a peacemaker at heart, easygoing and seeking to quell real conflict when he can even when everyone around him is trying to escalate it. Despite his tough attitude, he is in actuality big-hearted and compassionate. When his aunt was diagnosed with cancer, Jesse spent the last months of her life living in her home and caring for her. Though he never talks much about his aunt, it's clear that he cared about her and was deeply affected by her death. He keeps a framed picture of the two of them in his bedroom and berates his mother for abandoning her while she was dying. When he discovers that Walt also has lung cancer, he's familiar with the different stages and gives him advice on how to help with the hair loss caused by chemotherapy, showing that he had paid close attention to his aunt's illness and treatment.

Before Walt blackmailed Jesse into cooking meth with him and dragged him into the events of the series, Jesse was drifting aimlessly, not amounting to anything. At his canon point, he is just starting to see experience the dark consequences of working with Walt, starting with being an accessory to Emilio and Krazy-8's deaths and ending with his parents claiming that he was using his aunt's basement as a meth lab and kicking him out of the house. As the series goes on, Jesse will experience more loss and trauma and grow increasingly guilty about the death and chaos caused by his and Walt's meth operation. As Walt becomes colder and more brutal, justifying everything from lying to Jesse to poisoning a child in the name of protecting his family, Jesse finds himself more and more disturbed by the death and destruction that is a seemingly inevitable consequence of working with Walt. When a child is killed just for being a witness to their illegal activities, it's the last straw for Jesse, and he attempts to quit the meth business, wanting nothing more than to start over.

What did they do to end up here?: Cooking, selling, and using meth as well as using other drugs; being an accessory to murder and dissolving a dead body in acid
